Frequently Asked Questions
How does IPL laser hair removal work?
The newest generation of IPL systems safely transmits a targeted beam of light through the skin to penetrate and disrupt your hair follicles. The light converts into heat, disabling the cell’s ability for hair growth.
What are the actual treatments like?
IPL laser hair removal treatments are surprisingly fast and easy! During the procedure, you will feel a gentle snap in the area undergoing the treatment.
What can I expect after a session?
Once the treatment is over, you’ll experience little to no irritation. In some cases, depending on the procedure, skin type, and treatment area, clients may experience very mild redness or tenderness. However, such reactions do not interfere with day-to-day activities and usually subside within a day.
What's the difference between IPL and laser hair removal?
Though they have similar mechanisms of action (photo-thermal), traditional lasers use one specific wavelength, where IPL uses a full spectrum. The sensation with IPL is less intense, can cover a larger area at once, and is much gentler on the skin.
Am I a good candidate for IPL laser hair removal?
While results may vary according to factors like skin type, hormones, consistency of treatments, and your willingness to follow guidelines, IPL laser hair removal will not work on blonde, gray, or white hair. Still unsure? Call now to book a free consultation.
How many treatments will I need?
IPL most effectively interacts with hair when it’s in its active growth phase—the anagen phase. To ensure treatment occurs during this phase, multiple treatments are required for lasting hair removal. Usually, a 20% hair reduction will occur during initial treatment and as much as an 80% reduction occurs after four to six treatments.
How do I prepare for treatments?
Preparation is minimal, and unlike waxing, tweezing, or shaving, you don’t need to grow out body hair beforehand. We recommend avoiding artificial tanning or natural sun exposure before treatments.
What happens immediately after treatments?
For photofacials and hair removal, there is no downtime or post-treatment recovery or discomfort. In some cases for photofacials, mild redness or a flushed appearance may be present. This is absolutely normal and very short-lived. What's left is clearer, more youthful, naturally glowing skin.
Why is my hair still growing?
IPL uses thermal heat, which is a minimally invasive way to stop hair growth under the skin. It takes 7-10 days post treatment for your body to reject the hair. While it may look like stubble above the skin, it's not new hair growth. It's actually the old hair making its way to the surface to be shed.
Can I remove hair between treatments?
We highly advise against waxing or plucking/tweezing of any kind.
What skin conditions can IPL photofacial treat?
IPL kills P-acne bacteria living under the skin, so you don’t have to wait for acne to form on your skin's surface to start benefitting from treatments.
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that affects the middle third of the face with persistent redness. Areas primarily affected are the forehead, chin, and lower half of the nose. Tiny blood vessels in these areas dilate and become more visible through the skin, appearing like fine red lines. Acne may also occur in these areas.
Pigmentation can be caused by hormonal changes, sun damage, freckles, and age spots. The results of IPL-treated pigmentation vary depending on a client’s age, skin color, and initial cause of pigmentation. Most clients start seeing results after just two treatments.
A wide range of scars can be visibly improved with IPL. The treatment stimulates collagen production to normalize color and texture, and aid in acne scar recovery. However, it should be noted that treating scars can only start six months after scar has initially appeared.
Fine lines and wrinkles
IPL can help prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin begins to sag as we get older because our body no longer generates cells like it once did. IPL tightens skin by stimulating collagen growth and the cells underneath the surface, keeps skin in shape to prevent fine lines, pigmentation, and age spots. It also wakes up your skin and makes it glow from within!
Can IPL photofaciall help clear up acne breakouts and reduce my scarring?
Yes! The selective band of wavelength emitted from the IPL target pigment to destroy P-Acne bacteria, without using abrasive topical agents.
Is IPL safe?
Yes, it’s approved by the FDA. With that said, if you have any doubts, concerns, or questions about your health in regards to IPL treatment, please consult your physician or a medical professional. We are not medical professionals and cannot provide medical guidance.
